Diversity is important to Lilly and to the patients we serve.

Diversity has long been a key priority at Lilly. Strengthening diversity within our company is something we value. It's also indisputably good for business, particularly as our patient populations grow increasingly diverse.

Diversity fosters creativity. Creativity drives innovation. Innovation leads to better patient outcomes and, along with it, enhanced business success. Without diverse ideas, we simply cannot remain viable in a rapidly changing environment.

We foster a workplace that blends the talents of each and every employee, encouraging varied perspectives and approaches to our work. The more diverse we become, the more closely our work force mirrors the multicultural marketplace and guides our decision-making. This, in turn, makes us a better company.

Company Commitment

In 2006, we reinforced our commitment with the appointment of our first vice president of global diversity. This position, which reports directly to our chairman, reflects Lilly's continued commitment to inclusion in our own workplace, inclusion in the broader marketplace, and, ultimately, inclusion for our patients.

To help us achieve this goal, a number of high-level corporate leaders serve on our diversity leadership council, which was launched in 2004 to build a global integrated diversity strategy that extends to our own employees and beyond. With representation from each of the company's functions, the council oversees our implementation of and our accountability to Lilly's diversity strategy.
