The health care needs of people throughout the world are diverse — from those of societies seeking to increase the effectiveness of health care through sophisticated, innovative technology to the needs of communities concerned with securing basic health care to help keep people alive.

In 2007, we donated over $244 million in products to patients and agencies throughout the world.

Lilly Cares™

Lilly Cares™

Lilly Cares is a patient assistance program provided by Lilly through the Lilly Cares Foundation. As part of the company's efforts to provide access to our products for legal U.S. residents, regardless of their ability to pay, we created a program to offer free medication, through physicians, to patients who are otherwise unable to obtain our products. Lilly Cares assists patients who are uninsured and whose income is less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level. In 2007, the Lilly Cares Foundation, Inc. program responded to over 138,000 patients, valued at more than $145 million, for Lilly products. Most Lilly products are available through the program.

Eligibility is based on the patient's inability to pay and lack of third-party drug payment assistance, including insurance, Medicaid, and government, community, or private programs. The patient cannot be eligible for Medicare. Applications are available to anyone and must be completed and signed by the patient and the physician. Patients can download a blank application from the Lilly Cares website or applications can be faxed by calling 1-800-545-6962. A patient's medication will be shipped directly to his or her physician's office.

LillyMedicareAnswers™ Program

Access to affordable medications is a top priority for Eli Lilly and Company. LillyMedicareAnswers is a patient assistance program that provides eligible Medicare recipients access to affordable medications outside of their Medicare Part D plan.

The LillyMedicareAnswers program provides assistance to eligible patients prescribed Forteo® (teriparatide [rDNA origin] injection), Zyprexa® (olanzapine), or Humatrope® (somatropin [rDNA origin] for injection).

Some of the key eligibility criteria for the program are:

  • Enrollment in a Medicare Part D plan
  • Not eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid (non-dual eligible people)
  • Meet income eligibility criteria set by program
  • Proof of low-income subsidy denial
  • Signed certification that the patient will not claim or submit any cost incurred or associated with the medications provided under the LillyMedicareAnswers program towards their true-out-of-pocket-cost ("TROOP") calculation or submit any claim for reimbursement for the medications.

Once patients have enrolled in the LillyMedicareAnswers program, they are eligible to participate in the program for the rest of the calendar year, as long as they have a valid prescription for the medication. Patients must re-enroll in the program each year. A patient's medications will be shipped directly to the patient's home.
